The Roches Unreleased Songs Lyrics
1.I Love My Mom

Lyricist:Suzzy Roche

Mommy help me
I can't hear
There is a pain
In my ear

I am afraid
I am afraid

And I need your love
And I love my mom
I love my mom

Mommy why
Are you really angry
I don't know
What is the matter with me

You make me cry
You make me cry

And I need your love
And I love my mom
I love my mom

Down in the cellar
Is a memory chest
Inside of it
Mom's wedding dress

I try it on
I try it on

And I need your love
And I love my mom
I love my mom

I understand
As I get a little older
I can't always
Do what I'm told

I get a spanking
I get a spanking

And I need your love
And I love my mom
I love my mom

Oh, mommy
There is a boy
Down the street
He is a making fun of me

I'm running home as fast I can
I'm running home, I really ran

And I need your love
And I love my mom
I love my mom

Mommy help me
I can't hear
There is a pain
In my ear

I am afraid
I am afraid

And I need your love
And I love my mom
I love my mom

2.The Naughty Lady Of Shady Lane

Lyricist:Roy Bennett, Sid Tepper

The naughty lady of shady lane
Has hit the town like a bomb
The back fence gossip ain't been this good
Since Mabel ran off with Tom

Our town was peaceful and quiet
Before she came on the scene
The lady has started a riot
Disturbing the suburban routine

The naughty lady of shady lane
Has the town in a whirl
The naughty lady of shady lane
Me oh my, oh what a girl

Bum budda bum bum bum bum
Bum budda bum bum bum

You should see how she carries on
With her admirers galore
She must be giving them quite a thrill
The way they flock to her door

She throws those come-hither glances
At every Tom, Dick and Joe
When offered some liquid refreshment
The lady never, never says no

The naughty lady of shady lane
Has the town in a whirl
The naughty lady of shady lane
Me oh my, oh what a

Bum budda bum bum bum bum
Bum budda bum bum bum
Bum budda bum bum bum bum
Bum budda bum bum bum

The things they're trying to pin on her
(The naughty lady)
Will hold much water, I'm sure
(The naughty lady)

Beneath the powder and fancy lace
(The naughty lady)
There beats a heart sweet and pure
(The naughty lady)

She just needs someone to change her
And she'll be nice as can be
If you're in the neighborhood, stranger
You're welcome to drop in and see

The naughty lady of shady lane
So delightful to hold
The naughty lady of shady lane
So delectable, quite respectable
And she's only nine days old

3.Gung Ho

Lyricist:Terre Roche

Gung Ho, is a word I know
Means things are just beginning
Birth of a child, the wildness of youth
And the turf in the first inning

Coffee in the morning or Chinese herb tea
The former is the one works best for me
You can't be Gung Ho if yer hung over
Broken hearted, beaten down, eatin' crow
Mr. Brown, Gung Ho

Gung Ho is a tale that's told
With a see ya later to the fold
Got my guitar the farther I go
And I do mean to be bold

Playin' in the subway or a frat party
I ain't gonna be nobody's secretary
You can't be Gung Ho if you're hung over
Broken hearted, beaten down, eatin' crow
Mr. Brown, gung ho

Gung Ho, I'm just a ridin' high
Gung Ho, I'm not your ordinary guy
Gung Ho, just don't ask me why
I'm doin' anythin' that
I'm doin', doin', doin', Gung Ho, Gung Ho

Gung Ho is the thing I got when the
Girl she got me goin'
Birth of a child, the wildness of youth
But the bankbook isn't showin'

How am I gonna get to where I'm 'spose to be
A little common sense would be a good thing for me
You can't be Gung Ho if you're hung over
Broken hearted, beaten down, eatin' crow
Mr. Brown, Gung Ho

Gung Ho, I was a ridin' high
Gung Ho, I had me a pie in the sky
Gung Ho, now I'm not sure if I am
Doin' anythin' that I'm doin', doin, doin
Gung Ho, Gung Ho

Gung Ho is the way I was
When things were just beginning
Birth of a child, the wildness of youth
And the very thought of winning

Everybody said
That I would be okay, not one of them
Standing to this day
You can't be Gung Ho if you're hung over
Broken hearted, beaten down, eatin' crow
Mr. Brown, Gung Ho

Broken hearted, beaten down, eatin' crow
Mr. Brown, Gung Ho
Broken hearted, beaten down, eatin' crow
Mr. Brown, Gung Ho

4.Family Of Bones

Lyricist:Margaret A. Roche, Suzzy M. Roche

These tiny bones, I lay them on my life
They are you and you and you
Arranged to be the skeleton of love
I sit inside them at attention
Like a dog waiting for its owner to return

A garbage truck could flatten them into the road
Or a wind could scatter them apart

These tiny bones, I lay them on my life
They are you and you and you
As fragile as the remnants of a bird
Without the guts, without the word

With rain into the gutter, they could flush away
And there everything I love would go

These pearl bones, I wish they could be safe
So few, so few
Hung together with a thin string or something
A family of bones

5.Angels We Have Heard On High

Lyricist:Traditional

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o'er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyful strains

Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Gloria, in excelsis Deo

Shepherds why this jubilee
Why your joyful strains prolong
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song

Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Gloria, in excelsis Deo

6.It's Bad for Me

Lyricist:Cole Porter

Your words go through and through me
And leave me totally dazed
For they do such strange things to me
They nearly make me gloomy

For you dear are so clever
So obviously the top
I wish you'd go on forever
I wish even more you'd stop

Oh, it's bad for me, it's bad for me
The knowledge that you're going mad for me
I feel certain, my friends would be glad for me
But it's bad for me

It's so good for me, so new for me
To see someone in such a stew for me
And when you say, you'll do all you could for me
It's so good for me, it's bad for me

I felt 'til you whispered to me
Completely left on the shelf
But since you started to woo me
I'm just crazy about myself

It's a boon for me, a break for me
To hear that your heart's on the make for me
Yet no matter however appealing
I still have a feeling, it's bad for me

It's so sweet for me, it's swell for me
To feel that you're going through hell for me
Yet no matter however appealing
I still have a feeling, it's bad for me

7.Long Before

Lyricist:Lucy Roche

Oh, I think you're lost to me
Just a stranger I will never see
I drove away and I walked out that door
But you had left us long before

The year we spent there was strange and slow
Like all the cars in that rare southern snow
We ventured out without a plan or fear
Probably not a great idea

It's not about the things I wanted then
I've come to see now that I couldn't have used them
All the same it's true that even now
I'd like to talk to you somehow

I'd want to find out if you've heard that song
I'd want to tell you mine are coming along
Your family's well and healthy I suppose
I'm really curious to know

In the dimness of those last days gloom
While I was packing up the spare bedroom
You came and offered me a solemn word
About a voice you'd often heard

It was a moment when I saw inside
A little break from all that stoic pride
Do I think now that this would ring a bell
You know I couldn't even tell you

Oh, my friend, you're lost to me
Another a stranger I will never see
Oh, my friend, you're lost to me
Another a stranger I will never see

8.Only You Know How

Lyricist:Theresa Roche

Did you ever ask yourself, how did we get here?
Floating on a sea of sorrow, nothing else is clear
Nothing else is clear

And you might be a puppy dog, you might be a cow
Only love can save you and only you know how

Did you ever take a walk to the edge of town?
Back before the airplanes came and took the buildings down
Took the buildings down

When this life is over, then it will be now
Only love can save you and only you know how

Will you accept an apology from the bottom of my heart
And will you send me a letter from the bottom
Of your deep blue sea

Did you ever think that I would sing a song like this?
Asking all these questions when all I want's a kiss
All I want's a kiss

And when the day is over and you put down your plow
Only love can save you and only you know how
Only love can save you and only you know how

9.Piggy Mask

Lyricist:Suzzy M Roche, Terre Roche

The fantasy is crumbling
The piggy mask isn't working for me anymore
I'd like you to think of me
As somebody you'd put your teeth in for
Lipitor, boxer shorts, snoring and the waterfall
What more am I asking for?

Finally, it's crumbling
The piggy mask, nice meeting you here after all
I'd like you to think of me
As somebody you'd put your pants on for
Lexipro, lots of laughs, lovely in your dreaming eyes
Leaving you the way you are

And while you sleep, old butterfly
Shall I go to the mirror
That hides the medicine and holds the pig within?

The cabinet is crumbling
The piggy mask isn't working for me anymore
I'd like me to think of you
As someone who I'd put my face on for
Primrose oil, inner soles, soaking up the lavender
What more are you asking for?

10.Instead I Chose

Lyricist:Suzzy M. Roche, Terre Roche

I had that chance to fall in love
The life dance around myself
As if I am the shadow, nearly ended
But I never took the chance
Instead I chose to stay in a nutshell and be a nut

I had that chance to fall in love
The thing is, I didn't think it was worth it anymore
Responsibilities spoke louder, I guess
Instead, I chose to walk the other way and be here

I had that chance to leave this mess
But isn't it funny how I stayed put
Saddled up and harnessed caught horse
Instead I chose to call it love, this hard drive

I am riding into the sunset
Riding into the sunset
Riding into the sunset

11.Huh

Lyricist:Suzzy M. Roche, Terre Roche

How come, why, who was, what the huh?
Let's forget the whole, oh, I don't know
It's just that, so big deal, what's it to ya?
Let's forget the whole, oh, I don't know

I'm not signing, hey, so what I kicked it
Let's forget the whole, oh, I don't know

Stupid, stip you, no way
Go forth unfettered
You get outa look I forgot
Why is this even happening?

Crawling on my why? Don't, but, can't help it
Let's forget the whole, oh, I don't know
Look buddy, stay back, what the truth hurts
Let's forget the whole, oh, I don't know

It's a no go, bad boy, I'd like to be a nice old, duh
Let's forget the whole, I don't know
Look, this is not that, don't gimme, who do you?
Let's forget the whole, oh, I don't know

Stupid, stip you, no way
Go forth unfettered
You get outa look I forgot
Why is this even happening?

You're kinda, well, cute what does that?
Let's forget the whole, oh, I don't know

12.Stop Performing

Lyricist:Margaret Roche, Terre Roche

The very mention of your name
And we hear your voice
And when you danced, we came clapping, no choice
I, in my dress and my man in his pants
Yes, yes, yes

You have slurped up the moon with your mouth
And you've sent all the loons flying south
There's no more room in the spaces you went
Boom, boom, boom

Stop performing, won't you? Before I die laughing
Please, please sit still

Listen to the sound of space you won't fill
With your many talents
Gallantly streaming tears down my cheeks

Oh stop, please stop before I die
I'd love to see you stop performing
Before I die

13.Us Little Kids

Lyricist:Suzzy Roche

I get so sad just thinking of you
All the good times we had
I hurt your feelings, you hurt my feelings
But we had fun, too, that's not so bad

Is there a reason, these things happen
Like a snow day in July
Sometimes I might cry but then I snicker
That's the see saw you and I

See saw, us little kids
See saw, look what we did
Watching the sun go down on a game
(Watching the sun go down on a game)

I wish we made up
(I wish we made up)
I wish we made up
(I wish we made up)

Wherever you are, I hope you're happy
Is that a stupid thing to say?
It is the simple things that matters
Perhaps I'll find you another way

Watching the sun go down on a game
(Watching the sun go down on a game)
I wish we made up
(I wish we made up)
I wish we made up
(I wish we made up)

Down, down, down

I feel lonely off and on now
But didn't I when I was younger
Stand in my shadow without a friendship
Little worried what I'd become

See saw, us little kids
See saw, look what we did
Watching the sun go down on a game
(Watching the sun go down on a game)

I wish we made up
(I wish we made up)
I wish we made up
(I wish we made up)

Down, down, down
I wish we made up
(I wish we made up)
I wish we made up

14.September 11th At The Shambhala Center

Lyricist:Terre Roche

Good morning baby, the sky is your friend
When you're scared, look up to the big no end
I hear your voice, don't lose your nerve
I hear your voice, you are the one who is singing
And I am the listener

Good morning children, whatever you build
Will be strong if you find your way in the long storm
I hear your voice, don't lose your nerve
I hear your voice, you are the one who is singing
And I am the listener

Good morning grownups, remember the day
Also let it go the way of the big no
I hear your voice, don't lose your nerve
Stay if you ran, you are the one who is singing
And I am the listener

You are the one who is singing
And I am the listener
You are the one who is singing
And I am the listener

15.The Holly and the Ivy

Lyricist:Margaret (arr) Roche, Suzzy (arr) Roche, Terre (arr) Roche,
Traditional

The holly and the ivy
When they are both full grown
Of all the trees that are in the wood
The holly bears the crown

Oh, the rising of the sun
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ
Sweet singing in the choir

The holly bears a blossom
As white as lily flower
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ
To be our dear Savior

Oh, the rising of the sun
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ
Sweet singing in the choir

16.O Little Town of Bethlehem

Lyricist:Margaret (arr) Roche, Suzzy (arr) Roche, Terre (arr) Roche,
Traditional

O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by

Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight

For Christ is born of Mary
And gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondrous love

Oh, morning stars together
Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God our King
And peace to men on earth

17.The Little Drummer Boy

Lyricist:Katherine Davis, Henry Onorati, Harry Simeone

Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum

So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum
When we come

Baby Jesus, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give our King, pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum

Shall I play for You, pa rum pum pum pum
On my drum?

Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum, me and my drum, me and my drum

18.Away In a Manger

Lyricist:Margaret (arr) Roche, Suzzy (arr) Roche, Terre (arr) Roche,
Traditional

Away in a manger, no crib for His bed
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head
The stars in the bright sky, looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay

The cattle are lowing, the poor Baby wakes
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle, 'til morning is nigh

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Beside me forever and love me I pray
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care
And take us to Heaven, to live with Thee there

19.It Came Upon a Midnight Clear

Lyricist:Margaret (arr) Roche, Suzzy (arr) Roche, Terre (arr) Roche,
Traditional

It came upon the midnight clear
That glorious song of old
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold

Peace on the earth, goodwill to men
From heavens all gracious King
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing

Oh, ye beneath life's crushing load
Whose forms are bending low
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow

Look now, for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing
Oh, rest beside the weary road
And hear the angels sing

20.My Winter Coat

Lyricist:Margaret A Roche

The fit is generous and loose
The coat is filled with down of goose
Should I feel guilty about that?
I wouldn't wear the fur of a cat

The coat is black so in New York City
It doesn't look dirty it stays pretty
The cuffs are purple which perfectly suits
A pair I already had of boots

Can't help sharing on a personal note
A secret I have concerning the coat
One of the reasons that it got my vote
Is the way it lies open around the throat

For me the collar mustn't come too high
Because well all right my skin is dry
So each morning I rub my face with oil
And the fabric you see the grease could soil

Can we speak a moment about the lining?
After my own heart's designing
It's nylon so your skirts don't wind
Up in a bunch around your behind

When the time comes for the coat to clean
You throw this thing in the washing machine
Drying you doubt but the filling does fluff
I'm here to proclaim this coat is enough

The length of the coat is below the knees
So in the cold your legs don't freeze
I'm nuts about another one of its charms
There's plenty of room underneath the arms

The coat's not bulky it weighs about an ounce
And it's practically void of any frivolous flounce
I will admit it has shoulder pads
All things considered it's not so bad

It looks all right even from the side
I guess because the bottom isn't overly wide
Okay so you say you'd prefer something hipper
But can I just tell you about the zipper

I searched for it for many years
Last one I had I tore up in tears
It turned me into Jack the Ripper
But now I stepped in Cinderella's slipper

It runs from the gullet to just south of the crotch
And workin' it's a task you can hardly botch
It's made of a material that will not rust
It won't get stuck you don't get fussed

It undoes easily in the usual way
But you can also pull it up if you'd like to, let's say
Sit down on the train or climb some stairs
Your desire to bend this coat about shares

There's snaps as well which I don't even use
But they beat out buttons if I had to choose
I remember the night I went to the store
Fighting my way across the cloak-stuffed floor

Suffocating I was it seemed
When from a rack this last hope beamed
Of all my requirements I pursued the trail
To find furthermore the damn thing was on sale

It had a small chain at the back of the neck
So you could hang it on a hook but it broke what the heck
With the end of each sleeve I'm totally smitten
Ample space for to emerge a thick mitten

If you wanna be warm it wins far and away
It's like walkin' around in your bed all day
I know you're not supposed to be so fond of a thing
But today this is my heartfelt inspiration to sing

I hope you don't think I'm merely trying to be clever
I wish this coat would last forever

21.So

Lyricist:Terre Roche

So maybe another way would have been better
If you had been older or had known a thing or two
Before you set sail for the new world

Sail for the new world, mate
All this ships ahoy
Trouble is all of the things I hate
But I'm still a young boy

In the meantime a chance in the form of a light
Makes a man take a stance and dash his boat up on the rocks
In the dead of night

So what if you had been lucky then
What would it make you?
So there'd be a statue so people won't forget
You set sail for the new world

Sail for the new world, mate
Let's not and say we did
Trouble comes and it seals your fate
As you turn into the skid

Sail for the new world, mate
All ships ahoy
Trouble comes when you graduate
But I'm still a young boy

22.When You're Ready

Lyricist:Terre Roche

When you're ready
You will find it impossible to be cool

If you're ready
There's no need to be worried about coming off like a fool

So long Eddy
It's been beautiful knowin' ya in this school, are ya ready?

Come up to heaven, happiness it is a given
You gotta see this, atmosphere it is the freest
There's nothing to stop you

When you're ready
You'll be over the rainbow and on the moon, you'll be pretty

When you're ready
You will find it impossible to be cool

23.Move

Lyricist:Suzzy Roche

Sunday, cold weather
Home, that's where I'll stay
Okay I admit it, I've been drifting
Dreaming the hours away

Dreamin' of love
The gentle kind
I don't have to prove myself
All of the time

Working, years at a job
Burning for a raise
Let's face it, I'm no go getter
Worthy of a boss's praise

Worthy of love
The unusual kind
I don't have to prove myself
All of the time

At the bus stop when the evening falls
Resting there until the driver calls
Hurry it up now, hurry it up and move, lady

Magic, it's a shiny train
Stealing away in the wind
I can't catch it so I close my eyes
Feel it against my skin

Feeling that love
You're a friend of mine
I don't have to prove myself
All of the time

At the bus stop in the hazy dawn
Come on mister one last lazy yawn
Hurry it up now, hurry it up and move, lady

24.Can We Go Home Now

Lyricist:Margaret A Roche

Woke up alone in a strange bed
Lookin' around, shakin' my head
Pulled my boots on, went downstairs
She was sitting in one of the chairs

'Can we go home now?', was what I said
She looked at me and said, 'We are home'

Matter with you I nearly forgot
The difference between what is and what's not
Plenty of sky, castles of sand
Sea 'n' stars busted my hand

Can we go home now? I've had enough
She looked at me and said, 'Tough luck, suck'

Watchin' TV the whole day through
Bough bending low with nothin' to do
Sun gone down the railroad track
Breathing a cry when she comes back

Can we go home now? I wanna go home
She looked away and said, 'Please stay'

25.Holidays

Lyricist:Suzzy Roche

She's the kind of girl who pays for herself
And the money don't come rolling in
Been living here outside of fifteen years
Say how do you do, where does she begin?

Those lollipop eyes
No longer surprised
Still willing to try

Worried she'll get to be
As big as a house
Her apartment is small
She's got to stay the size of a mouse

Walking around
The old neighborhood
There were several wise guys
She'd do over if she could

Please no more lies
Warm September skies
Still willing to try
But the holidays, holidays are hard

Sun's so bright
She pulls the shade
Puts a dinky dinner in
It's factory made

She bought the book
How to help yourself
Climb up on the chair, girl
And take it down from the shelf

Cracks open a smile
Ain't she got style
Still willing to try
But the holidays, holidays are hard

26.I'm Someone Who Loves You

Lyricist:Suzzy Roche

What if your father has a stroke
When you are ten then sits like a rag doll
Wheelchair in the den
You start failing school
Breaking every rule
Pretty soon you're a bum

Then one day you meet a girl at first sight
You both stand speechless
In the hall through the night
What ever happened to her
There are traces of what she were
She wanted to be a nun

Both of you begin to cautiously
Whisper words, you sit together chirping
Little tiny love birds
Who knows what you said
If only you could touch her in bed
She certainly is the one

Time passes by and you ruin it
Before your eyes you are losing it
How can you get what you need from her
Now you become just a weed to her

I'm someone who loves you

That was years ago
Now the New Mexico hills
You sometimes describe to her
Heavy telephone bills, she lives way back east
Says can't you keep in touch at least
But you don't call her up

Deep in the heart of the life you live
Tenderly you treasure
Every kiss that you give
Don't think about her much
You kicked away that crutch
So you could walk alone

By now you know you can't ruin it
It's just that one day you stop doin' it
I'm someone who loves you!
I'm someone who loves you!

27.Christlike

Lyricist:Terre Roche

He wants to be Christlike and never be jealous
So he lets her go on about all the other fellas
But the animal in 'em awakes with a growl
And a skin 'em cannibal scowl
Skin 'em cannibal scowl

And a swing from the trees with his teeth like a chainsaw
Come near me, I'll rake off your face with one paw
Watch me now, I'm beating my chest like a robber
Who steals from my meat as I rend and slobber

He sits in the plaza in tunic and sandals
Watching her bent over buying the candles
And he thinks he'd like to take her from behind
Would the Scribes and the Pharisees mind?
Scribes and the Pharisees mind

A woman approached me all bent and repentant
I blessed her and sent her wherever she went
Will these followers ever stop doggin' me now
That I've thrown off this stone and got loose somehow?

A life that you try to put into a grave
Comes back every Easter to haunt you and save
But my nature is wounded and bloodied and hung
From a cross for my sins and the sins of everyone
Oh those sins of everyone

I'm jealous goddamnit, I'm Christ and I'm jealous
And angry and sad and oh Father please tell us
I'm human and God and I'm animal too
As I listen to her going on about you

28.You (Make My Life Come True)

Lyricist:Margaret Roche

Once offered the chance of a lifetime
I wasn't able to do it
You laid yourself on the line
Baby, somehow we got through it

You make my life come true

Lost fumbling around in the dark
I wasn't able to see it
You came and turned on the spark
Showed me myself so I could be it

You make my life come true

Who played it so I could hear?
A voice worthwhile inside me
When I looked up from my fear
You were the one standing beside me

You make my life come true

With nothing to hold in my arms
My heart was wounded on empty
Disregarding all the alarms
Starting me overflowing with plenty

You make my life come true

29.Christmas Passing Through

Lyricist:Suzzy Roche

What's the time? Christmas time
I love Christmas time
Look at that Christmas tree
Shining brightly, oh

Peace on earth
Peace on earth

Who's the king lying down?
Doesn't have a crown
He has come to us poor
Simple, good and pure

Peace on earth
Peace on earth

Here's a gift wrapped up tight
Open up this bow tonight
Love for all, not just a few
Another Christmas passing through

Peace on earth
Peace on earth

30.My Sick Mind

Lyricist:Roy Brown

Listen to the people talk
Listen to the people talk
She's such a good girl
She's such a good girl

No nobody knows
Nobody knows
Not even your best friend knows
The bind you're in

I checked myself in the mirror
Before I came out tonight
Changed clothes several times
And now I feel as though I put on airs

31.The Death of Suzzy Roche

Lyricist:Terry & Suzzy Roche

I work in the laundromat
The one that Suzzy Roche
Does hers at, I hate her guts
She thinks I want her autograph

She's got stinky crusty socks
She's got underwear that shocks
Oh, what a pig, she's such a pig
I'd like to stick a turd in her mailbox

Some people really have a lot of nerve
Everywhere they go they think they should get served
Everybody in the laundromat is equal
Suzzy Roche

She hands me a ten dollar bill
Asks so sweetly if I will
Give her some change, give her some change
I'd like to bang her head against a windowsill

She says the machine is broke
The way she loaded that thing is a joke
Broken machine, another broken machine
Now I'd really like to cut her throat

Some people really have a lot of nerve
Everywhere they go they think they should get served
Everybody in the laundromat is equal
Suzzy Roche

She decides that she's got to get out of there
Other people waiting but she don't care
Cycle is through, her cycle is through
I took out her clothes and threw them everywhere

Boy was she mad when she got back
I said, 'Listen honey, don't give me no flack'
Pick up your clothes, pick up your clothes
And when she did I stuck a knife right through her back

Some people really have a lot of nerve
Everywhere they go they think they should get served
Everybody in the laundromat is equal
Suzzy Roche

32.Factory Girl

Lyricist:Margaret A Roche, Suzzy Roche, Terry E Roche

As I went out walkin' one fine summer's mornin'
The birds in the branches they did gaily sing
The lad and the lasses together were sportin'
Goin' down to the fact'ry their work to begin

I spied a fair damsel far fairer than any
Her cheeks like the red rose that none could excel
Her skin like the lily that grows in yon valley
She's my own bonnie annie my factory girl

I stepped did up to her just thinkin' to view her
But at me she cast a proud look of disdain
Sayin' 'stand off me young man and do not insult me
For although I am poor sure I think it no shame'

'It's not to insult you fair maid I adore thee
Ah pray grant me one favor it's where do ya dwell? '
'Kind sir forgive me it's now I must leave you
For I hear the dumb sound of the factory bell'

Now love is a thing that does rule every nation
Good mornin' kind sir and I hope ya do well
My friends and relations would all frown upon it
Besides I'm a hardworkin' factory girl

Oh it's true I do love her but now she won't have me
For her sake I'll wander through valley and dell
And for her sake I'll wander where no one can find me
I'll die for the sake of my factory girl

33.Bobby's Song

Lyricist:Suzzy Roche, Terry Roche

Think he's got a crush on me
I saw the whole scene
What makes you think
He's got a crush on you?

'Cause he played his song for me
I was sitting there too
What makes you think
He played those songs for you?

If his girlfriend wasn't there
He would have been free
To make it known that
He's in love with me

He was in a plane crash
He plays the clarinet
He's trying to stop drinking
But his girlfriend hasn't left him yet

Did you see the way he gazed at me
In between the notes he played?
It's stupid to believe in stuff
That happens on a stage

Think you must be very drunk
You're seeing double
Sober up or you're in big trouble

But, did you see?

Bet he calls me up this week
When you weren't looking
I slipped him my number
And then, we kissed

34.Nurds

Lyricist:Suzzy Roche

I'm so glad I am one

Nurds

When I was a young girl
I went to Catholic school
Hung around all the nuns
That was so uncool

All the other girls were wearing
Make-up in fourth grade
But I was not allowed
I wore anklets and prayed

Nurds

Paula Duvle dyed her hair
And started going out with boys
I was into homework
And trying to get toys

It was around that time
I discovered what I was
For instance I said 'Policeman'
But Paula called them 'Fuzz'

Nurds

Then I went to high school
It really hit me hard
I started finding out that
They were calling me retard

In the gymnasium I was not a hit
There was something really interesting
About the way my gym suit fit

Nurds

I'm so glad I am one

35.The Great Gaels

Lyricist:Roche Margaret A, Roche Suzzy M, Roche Terre

The great Gaels of Ireland
The race that God made mad
For all their wars are merry
And all their songs are sad

36.Home Away From Home

Lyricist:Suzzy Roche

She was twenty six when she came to the burbs
Where the family secrets stop at the curbs
I was nine when she moved next door
She had married a republican he was for the war

He was mean he beat her up
All the time preaching that republican stuff
Hated blacks hated Jews
Knelt down Sundays at our lady of the blues

Over at my house things were sad
Because my folks were always fighting that made me feel bad
I went to her door with a cookie tin
I said, 'I am your neighbor, would you let me in?'

She was big having a baby
She asked me are you hungry and I said maybe
She gave me soup a piece of toast
She gave me what I needed the most

Yeah, thank you for the love you gave me as a child
There must have been so much pain
That you never cried in my
Home, away from home

Then one day we found a sick bird
On the very same doorstep where I first met her
Being a nurse well, she took the bird in
And we fed her with an eye dropper 'til the following spring

When the time came to let the bird go
This is what she said when I cried no
If you keep her locked inside
Honey, she won't be able to fly

Yeah, thank you for the love you gave to me as a child
There must have been so much pain
That you never cried in my
Home, away from home
Home, away from home
